On June 6th, Continental Group announced the successful development of an innovative motor rotor temperature sensor (eRTS), which is the world's first direct measurement of the rotor temperature of permanent magnet synchronous motors in electric vehicles.

At present, the measurement of motor temperature is usually obtained through software simulation, with a tolerance range of up to 15 ° C.
The eRTS technology of Continental Group significantly improves measurement accuracy, reducing the tolerance range from 15 ° C to only 3 ° C.
This technology not only improves measurement accuracy, but also helps car manufacturers reduce the amount of rare earth elements used to enhance the heat resistance of magnets, while increasing the potential for motor performance and enhancing sustainability.
ERTS consists of two independent components: a temperature sensing unit and a transducer unit.
The temperature sensing unit is directly installed in the target area for temperature measurement, ensuring that it is as close as possible to the magnet position.

The wireless temperature sensing unit only obtains energy from the wired transducer connected to the electronic control unit (ECU), while providing measurement data to the transducer.
The transducer is located outside the motor and transmits temperature information through a dedicated communication interface.
The piezoelectric ultrasonic technology is used between the two to achieve bidirectional wireless communication and energy transmission.
The launch of this technology provides a more accurate solution for temperature monitoring and control of electric vehicle motors, which helps to improve motor performance and reliability while reducing costs.
